The Evolution of Super Nupe – Part 7

The bond spans 114 years. There are old Nupes, young Nupes, kane master Nupes, strolling, shimmying Nupes, crooning Nupes, alumni Nupes and the NOTY. For our first offering, we wanted to depart from our differences or preferences and lean into what was common. Every Nupe is a superhero.

We had our scaled figure, and it was now time to brand him… to give him a name that was not Kappa Man but would still be relatable to both the figure itself and the Nupes. It had to be catchy, easy to remember, and easy to refer to.

As I brainstormed names, I put Super Nupe on my list. I didn’t like it at first, but it quickly grew on me. The more I tried to get away from it, the more sense it made not to. We polled random people that we trusted. We asked them, “when looking this figure what would you call it?” Super Nupe was the first thing that came to mind for many of them. Many Nupes came back with lots of other great suggestions, and believe me, they have been cataloged for future consideration, but none of them unseated Super Nupe. One brother, who didn’t have Super Nupe on his list, came back said “I left it off because I didn’t think you would want to lean into it, but honestly it was the first thing that came to mind."

Our decision was clear, why force something else when the best answer is obvious, Super Nupe was born!
